Over 40 filmmakers, shoot in their countries to create a piece of work that is collective in nature and charitable in purpose.
The idea is to connect and build together. Ellen Kuras, who is a established prominent cinematographer with two Emmy Awards, and numerous Sundance accolades and Oscar nomination for her first feature documentary, had an idea to create a visual document about the COVID-19 pandemic in New York and discussed with her fellow cinematographers who are members of the ASC. The idea quickly grew to capturing footage and stories in other US cities, and then ultimately as this is a global pandemic, the idea grew even more to documenting the pandemic across the the world.
The plan is to make a cinematic documentation of this global pandemic, as seen through the eyes of filmmakers across the world. In the way Koyaanasqatsi was a cinematic exploration of the world being broken – or I am Cuba created a visual language to explore, examine and celebrate Cuban culture – this is not a series of factual documentary films, but each chapter is more more about exploring how each culture is experiencing the effects of Covid-19 on their human existence.
Filmmakers from 35 countries around the globe are invited to tell their country’s story with their authenticity and insight. It would be a combined effort, to create something impactful, meaningful and historical where the aim is to donate the profits to DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS.
The donated footage will be sent to and safely stored in the vault at HARBOR PICTURE COMPANY for the final conform/grade/mix. The final piece will be curated together by Ellen in the USA. Upon completion of the final film /series, the materials will then be put into an archive to be preserved for future generations.
PARTICIPANT – the production / distribution company that made American Factory, Contagion, Dark Waters, An Inconvenient Truth, will distributed the film to enable it a large audience.
